The Women's Institute
The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has over 210,000 members in around 6,600 WIs.
Georgeham WI
Georgeham WI was established in 1948. We currently have a membership of around 40 who mainly come from the villages of Georgeham and Croyde.
We are a very friendly group of ladies. We start our evenings with a short WI business meeting then we are entertained and informed by a wide variety of speakers; or sometimes we may have a hands-on session and learn new skills. (Have a look at the Programme page for more details). The evening finishes with refreshments and lots of chatting!
There are smaller groups that meet outside of the main meetings. We currently have the following groups:
Craft
Whist
Skittles
Theatre/Films
Swimming
If you have a group who would like to visit the area we can organise buffet lunches and suppers, plain, cream or high teas in the Village Hall. Use the Contact Us page to let us know of your requirements.
